The Civilians are an original band, with touchstones in alternative, hard rock, R & B, and progressive music, yet they are an entity unto themselves; a true original in an ocean of imitators. Combining urgent vocals with surging musicality, the band marries visceral soundscapes to thought-provoking themes.
 
Following three successful independent releases, the Civilians released "Enough Rope" in late 1996. One of Detroit's most influential features columnist, the late Bob Talbert,   raved; including the recording in his 1996 Top 10 list and writing: "Enough Rope is a masterpiece...the best record to come out of Detroit in years, it's filled with irresistible hooks, intelligent lyrics and a uniquely talented vocalist..."

Building upon an impressive fan-base, The Civilians continue to develop their audience throughout Michigan, the Midwest and beyond. As a  hard-working, independent band, they have positioned themselves as one of the region's premiere live recording acts.
